Pashnyak Receives Faculty Enrichment Award

Tatyana Pashnyak, Associate Professor at BC, was recently awarded this year’s Faculty Enrichment Award by the Bainbridge College Foundation. The Foundation provides this enrichment scholarship “with the purpose of encouraging faculty to participate in enrichment experiences and to bring them back to our campuses.”

Tatyana applied to help develop and present a paper entitled, “Creating Facebook Communities of Practice: A Content Analysis.” Tatyana has been very interested for a while in how social media might be used to increase student participation in online classes and has experimented with a number of technologies over the last couple of years. In this project, she used Facebook in two sections of one of her courses and evaluated the results. She found that student participation via Facebook was strong, and that students were interacting about both social and academic issues throughout the semester. She used the award to present the paper at 2011 World Conference on E-Learning in Corporate, Government, Healthcare, and Higher Education.
